I’m not sure I remember

Yesterday evening Josie and I hung out while the rest of her bunch went to karate. We picked squash

20140529-213333.jpg
and she helped me wash it,

20140529-213508.jpg
and get it ready to bake.

20140529-213611.jpg
We petted bunnies,

20140529-213820.jpg
and sailed through the air in the pink swing.

20140529-213946.jpg
And we drew horses on the chalk board.
Then, after she went home, I took a bath. Now, normally I wouldn’t mention such a thing. You see, we have four bathrooms, but only one of them has a tub. And it is gearing up to be remodeled…and can’t be used.
Soooo, I washed out this

20140529-215021.jpg
galvanized tub and fixed it so I could have me a bath.

20140529-215317.jpg
I ran some hot water in it…

20140529-215510.jpg
and waited. Then, just as day was surrendering to night, I settled into the lavender infused, shoulder deep water, sipped an Italian cream soda, watched the flickering candle flames, and listened to a whippoorwill. I’m not sure I remember EVER enjoying a bath this much.

Rainy day stroll

Whatdayado on a rainy day in the a South?

20140528-115345.jpg
Well, pretty much what you do any other day…

20140528-115407.jpg
if you’re a duck.
I guess it would depend on the temperature, and time of year, and just how bad the rain really is.
Today it’s raining, and I decided to take a stroll through the daylilies. Daylilies DO NOT look good when they’re wet. But I discovered that wet looks pretty good on daylilies. This is what I saw. Enjoy!

Guess who’s back?

Yesterday we went to the airport to pick up that girl from New York,

20140524-210713.jpg
you know….the one that lived with us last summer. And how long will she be staying this time?

20140524-211126.jpg
We don’t know. She don’t know. Only God knows.

20140524-211323.jpg
We’re just glad she’s home, and she can stay however long she wants.

20140524-211900.jpg
On our way back to the house we stopped at Canes. You see,

20140524-212059.jpg
that girl from New York discovered Canes last summer, and there’s not one in Buffalo.

20140524-214045.jpg
So we fixed her up with some fried chicken and sweet tea.
The first thing she said when she got off the plane was, “I really missed you guys”. So, I think she’s happy to be back. The next thing she said was, “Oh my goodness, I’m going to have to get used to this heat again.”
Oh well, so are the days of our lives.

When fish fly

Josh and Nikki went to some daylily deal in Baton Rouge for the weekend, which being interpreted, means that the grandmothers would tag team the kids.
My round started yesterday morning. It was a perfect day with not a cloud in the sky, so for lunch, they wanted to have a picnic.

20140516-094211.jpg
The boys spread the blanket,

20140516-094345.jpg
while Josie and I prepared the spread.
There was just a slight chill in the air, so having the blanket in full sun

20140516-094744.jpg
felt really nice.
We stayed outside most of the day, except for a couple of

20140516-095114.jpg
rest periods which always included Tandy, the new rabbit.
The afternoon and evening were spent fishing,

20140516-095833.jpg
Thank goodness, the boys could

20140516-100115.jpg
bait their own hooks,

20140516-100306.jpg
and remove their own fish.
At one point Josie and I took a little walk, and she

20140516-100727.jpg
stopped to rest on a rock. While we were there, I looked to find Denton putting the stringer of fish back into the pond. He was swinging those fish around his head like a cowboy about to rope a steer. When he released that stringer, all those little fish somehow just flew off.
That was fine with me, because I didn’t want to clean them anyhow. But, wouldn’t you know, that after we got back from karate,

20140516-101940.jpg
those boys went back out and caught some more.

20140516-102914.jpg
I was kinda hoping that those fish knew how to fly too…but they didn’t. So, I’ll close with a quote from my granddaughter, who, quite often says,

20140516-102311.jpg
“Weeeeeee! What fun!”

Love that dog!

Perhaps you’ve seen us

20140513-092707.jpg
out and about. Or maybe you’ve

20140513-092515.jpg
passed us on the road. And if you haven’t, it’s possible that you will. I’m trying to expose Piper to as many sights, sounds and people as I can. ( You know…therapy dog in training.) He just hasn’t mastered the art of pretending he’s not so excited to see people.
So, today we went to Tractor Supply to practice his social skills,

20140513-114906.jpg
and let him do a little shopping.
He must have anticipated that we would be going someplace, because when I called him to clip on his leash,

20140513-115257.jpg
he was flossing his teeth. Love that dog!

I love it when that happens

Things are moving right along on our little hill.

20140510-115447.jpg
The mayhaw season is drawing to a close, and though there are quite a few

20140510-115517.jpg
of them still under the trees, they can stay there. Those ‘nassy pigs’ have been having them for a midnight snack. How do I know that? Well, because they have left ‘thank you’ gifts in the form of little piles under most of the trees. And that’s all I have to say about that.

20140510-115554.jpg
The blueberries are coming along quite nicely,

20140510-115641.jpg
as well as the plums

20140510-115727.jpg
and peaches.

20140510-115812.jpg
The corn patch is sporting a few gaps, thanks to the crows, but

20140510-115900.jpg
the rest of our little garden is looking good.

20140510-115940.jpg
The roses running along the fence are in full bloom, as well as

20140510-120014.jpg
the Confederate Jasmine growing on the tree house. And, because of our unusually cold winter, the daylilies are just now

20140510-120048.jpg
getting up enough nerve to begin to open…and I love it when that happens.

What you’re REALLY doing

Friday evening was perfect for a picnic, so I figured,

20140502-202352.jpg
“Why not?” Besides, the grandchildren were coming over,

20140502-202417.jpg
so I prepared a place in the mayhaw orchard for supper.

20140502-202442.jpg
At the appropriate time,Denton drove us up the hill on the golf cart, but halfway there,

20140502-202532.jpg
Hudson jumped off and beat us there on foot.

20140502-202847.jpg
Josie was more than happy to take her place on the blanket, because she knew

20140502-203020.jpg
that we were having ‘bockey’…which, being interpreted, means ‘broccoli’.

20140502-223913.jpg
We ate fried chicken,

20140502-224011.jpg
and drank juice from little boxes.

20140503-063857.jpg
There was even dirty rice, and for dessert,

20140503-063935.jpg
there were chocolate cupcakes.

20140503-064116.jpg
When the boys decided to race to ‘pawpaw rock’, Josie (who LOVES chicken)

20140503-064156.jpg
snatched theirs up, and took off with it.

20140503-064315.jpg
Joel was late getting there, because of work. But when he did show up, we got to talking,

20140503-064543.jpg
and Penny ate the chicken we had saved for him. Soooo,

20140503-064858.jpg
we looked for animals in the clouds.
Whether you’re doing any or all of the above,

20140503-065146.jpg
or are pretending you’re in a space ship traveling through galaxies far, far away,

20140503-065308.jpg
or picking up may haws, and maybe

20140503-065348.jpg
trying a few…all of that is not what you’re really doing anyhow. What you’re REALLY doing…is making memories.

Payday someday

Those ‘nassy pigs’,
20140501-075754.jpg
as Josie calls them,

20140501-073425.jpg
have really had themselves a good time

20140501-073456.jpg
on our little piece of heaven. It’s not that easy

20140501-073527.jpg
to catch them in the act of being themselves, because you never know

20140501-073610.jpg
what time their parties are going to get under way…

20140501-073707.jpg
and those parties are always private. For me, staying up all night is NOT gonna happen. So what do you do? You set a trap and go to bed and wait…because nobody ever really gets away with anything…even pigs.

20140501-073742.jpg
Dr. R. G. Lee preached the most famous sermon of the 20th century. As a matter of fact, he preached it over 1000 times. The sermon was titled ‘Payday Someday’. To sum it up, for all, there will be a payday someday …either sooner or later.

20140501-073811.jpg
For some, it will be a good experience. For others…not so much.
This week, payday came sooner than later for a certain sounder of swine, whose ‘trespasses’, though committed in darkness,

20140501-073920.jpg

<a
had been revealed in the light.

20140501-085335.jpg
I’ve gotta tell ya, they’re really not that friendly. But,

20140501-085439.jpg
what else would you expect from a face like this?
