North to Alaska

Three weeks from today I will be winging my way back to

Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula where, for the third time in a year

I’ll be staying at the Grouchy Old Woman Bed and Breakfast, not far from

the beautiful Cook Inlet.

This time I will not be traveling alone, which pleases me.

Joel and I will be making this little journey together.
So what are we going to do once we’re there? Specifically… I have no idea…yet. It will be good to be on Daniel’s lake again, hanging out with Mom and the gang. Hopefully, Mom will have some projects that we can help her with. There will also be time for adventure. After all, going to a place known as the last frontier does usher in a spirit of adventure. Someone said,”Without the spirit of adventure how can we continue to really be ourselves?” So, back to the question about what we’re going to be doing. I guess you can say that we’re going to just really be ourselves.

The circle in the shade

Yesterday morning Laura was at work so Adam came over to our place to hang out. Josh was in the garden

doing his daylily thing…

whatever that is.

So Adam,

Nikki and Josie went out to sit in the shade of the fruit trees. The boys, who are not slaves to fashion, were there too,

climbing and having a good old time. At one point, Denton went out on a limb and couldn’t figure how to come back, so Nikki and Josie

went to his rescue.
The boys tried out a plum

that had fallen to the ground, but I’m not too sure

20130601-150612.jpg
that it made a positive impression on Denton.
Soon,

Josh joined the circle in the shade,

and so did Joel. And in that space of space and time, all was well

in everybody’s little world.

Six more to go

Several months ago I got a call from Adam. He and Laura were visiting with her parents, Karen and Rusty Elston. Rusty had some old

Lone Star chicken feeders that he wanted to get rid of, and Adam thought that I might like to have them. I told him to bring them all. There were a total of seven.
He put them in one of the old greenhouses that we are using for a shed, and I forgot about them. That is, until about two weeks ago. I brought several of them up to the house to see how I might could repurpose them.
I decided to use one of them as a hanging basket

in which I would plant

a variety of succulents

in the part that chickens would eat out of.

I put some rocks on top of the soil between the plants in hopes that they would help hold in the moisture.

Then I hung the thing up by the back door. One down, six more to go.
